The author of more than 150 <a href=\"https:\/\/faculty.som.yale.edu\/edkaplan\/papers\/\">research articles<\/a>,\u00a0Professor Kaplan received both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.informs.org\/Recognizing-Excellence\/INFORMS-Prizes\/Frederick-W.-Lanchester-Prize\">Lanchester Prize<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.informs.org\/Recognizing-Excellence\/INFORMS-Prizes\/Franz-Edelman-Award\">Edelman Award<\/a>, two top honors in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nap.edu\/read\/13062\/chapter\/5\">operations research field<\/a>, among many other <a href=\"https:\/\/faculty.som.yale.edu\/edkaplan\/awards\/\">awards<\/a>. An elected member of both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nae.edu\/About.aspx\">National Academy of Engineering<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/nam.edu\/\">National Academy of Medicine<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalacademies.org\/about\">US National Academies<\/a>, he has also twice received the prestigious <a href=\"http:\/\/ldft.huji.ac.il\/\">Lady Davis Visiting Professorship<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/new.huji.ac.il\/\">Hebrew University of Jerusalem<\/a>, where he has investigated AIDS policy issues facing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.knesset.gov.il\/\">State of Israel<\/a>. Kaplan pioneered the application of operations research to public health issues such as <a href=\"https:\/\/pubsonline.informs.org\/m\/doi\/pdf\/10.1287\/opre.43.4.558\">HIV prevention<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/pnas\/99\/16\/10935.full.pdf\">bioterror preparedness<\/a>, and also played a leading role applying <a href=\"https:\/\/rose-technion.som.yale.edu\/\">operations research to problems in counterterrorism and homeland security<\/a>.\u00a0 More recently, as a member of Yale\u2019s COVID-19 Public Health Committee, Kaplan developed <a href=\"https:\/\/pubsonline.informs.org\/doi\/10.1287\/msom.2020.0891\">novel models<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10729-020-09504-6\">understand<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007%2Fs10729-020-09525-1\">monitor<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/significancemagazine.com\/controlling-the-spread-of-coronavirus-via-repeat-testing-and-isolation\/\">prevent the spread<\/a> of SARS-CoV-2.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, Kaplan was elected to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.informs.org\/Explore\/History-of-O.R.-Excellence\/Biographical-Profiles\/Kaplan-Edward\">presidency<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.informs.org\/\">Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences<\/a> (INFORMS), the world\u2019s largest society of operations research and analytics academics and professionals.\u00a0 He served as President-Elect in 2015, President in 2016, and Past-President in 2017.
